AfyaMix

Afyamix  is a viable option for providing a nutritious cost effective diet to address  the constraints faced by many families in Kenya whose children are at risk of developing or suffering from moderate malnutrition (stunting and wasting) due to poverty and food insecurity.

Afyamix prevents malnutrition through programs that target pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and children aged 0-23 months, and treatment of moderate and severe wasting among less than 5 years (59 months). This program also reduces the risk of 2-5 years old becoming malnourished.

Provision of Afyamix is a part of reducing, the gap and increase accessibility of required foods.

Afyamix meets nutritional requirement of specific groups. These include:

  • Toto Afya Mix: Toto Afya Mix is formulated for children above 6 months to 5 years. Poor nutrition in infancy and early childhood increases the risk of infant child morbidity and mortality, diminished cognitive and physical development marked by poor performance in school.

    Consumption of Toto Afya Mix by this age group is expected to result in prevention of micronutrient deficiencies, stunting, underweight and wasting. This will also enhance timely introduction of complementary foods. Ultimately this will reduce child mortality
  • Jamii Afya Mix: Is formulated for mid-childhood, adolescents, teenagers and adults. Recently, studies have highlighted the poor intake of critical nutrients by school children and adolescents and the potential that interventions in this age group may have to improve growth and development. 

    Jamii Afya Mix enhances access of fortified blended foods by the general population.  This result in improved nutrition status of the population reduced micronutrient deficiencies and ultimately reduced morbidity.   • Mama Afya Mix: formulated for pregnant and lactating mothers, pre-natal nutriment is rich in iron, calcium, omega 3 and phosphorous. This provides required macro and micro nutrients for proper fetal development.

    Mama Afya Mix formulation meets the nutrient requirements of both pregnant and lactating mothers. Consumption of Afya Mix mama is expected to result in reduced micronutrient deficiencies, low birth weight and enhance weight gain in pregnancy.
